Structures for the dedusting of blast furnace fumes
As part of the "37 AIA prescription" of 2014, PAULWURTH Italia developed the executive design of the metal carpentry structures of the new exhaust system for the emissions of the ovens serving the former "ILVA" coke plant in Taranto. The system called TRAV-L-VENT consists of a 400-metre box structure, 3 m high and 1.8 m wide, with the dual function of fume duct and runway for the mobile extractor hood, supported by a series of columns trellises between 9 and 11 meters high, for a total weight of about 800 tons of steel.
LMSteel Consulting developed the construction design using the Tekla Structures software in close collaboration with the CRESCO Structural Designer of Genoa. Modelling in a BIM environment proved to be an indispensable tool for the success of the project as the new system had to be integrated with the existing coking plant.
