Fully automated public transport system for the connection between the airport and Bologna station

People Mover is a monorail shuttle that connects the central station and Bologna airport in just 7 minutes. Inaugurated in November 2020, it is an indispensable connection for the accessibility and attractiveness of the area: 58 million passengers pass through Bologna station every year and the Bologna airport continues to increase passengers and attracts new flights. The work required a financial commitment of 115 million euros. The route has a linear development of approximately 5 kilometres, along which some important works are located: the bypass of motorways and ring roads and the underpass of the Bologna-Padua railway line.

The mission entrusted to LMSteel Consulting sagl consists of the detailed structural design of the steel structure including 5 km of deck of the monorail, the 3 stations, the emergency stairs, and the overpass portals of the A14 motorway. With more than 15,000 hours of Engineering, the projects have been developed up to the "Design for Manufacturing" phase with 3D modeling in BIM process using the Tekla structures software and delivery of the workshop and assembly plans.
